Established in 2014, Slow Food Kisangani is a non-profit organization located in the Northeast region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was created by local grassroots communities and is one of the core members of the international Slow Food Movement. The organization managed by volunteers and directed by its members including farmers, fishermen, consumers, cookers, schoolchildren, academics, and journalists. Agricultural projects are then sold by women who envision a food system that is based on the principles of quality and taste, sustainability, and environmental and social justice, reflecting the essence of a food system that is good, clean, and fair for all.

Our Mission & Vision
We seek to create dramatic and lasting change in the food system and strive to reconnect the Congolese with the people, plants, animals, fertile soils, and waters that produce our food. We aim to inspire people and communities to change the world through GOOD, CLEAN, and FAIR food for all. Slow Food Kisangani’s mission is to contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the inhabitants of the city of Kisangani and its surroundings and to help food producers produce sufficiently tasty and clean food without destroying the environment or harming the environment. We aim to improve consumer health and support producers in their efforts to sell their products at a fair price.
GOOD: We believe in delicious food as a daily right. We strive to cultivate joyful links with the community and advocate for the diversity of ecosystems and societies.
CLEAN: We protect natural resources for future generations, help the community and the environment depend on one other, and promote locally grown and sustainably grown food.
FAIR: We build local cooperation and global collaborations while respecting all laws. We do not require any preconditions or identification for participation and we fight for the dignity of labor from field to fork.
